DeFi Backend Engineer – Scalable Blockchain APIs (San Francisco)

You'll work at the intersection of fintech reliability and web3 innovation, building APIs that handle real capital flowing through smart contracts and distributed ledgers. What You'll Be Doing
Design and build scalable backend services in Java that support decentralized finance products and high-volume transaction processing
Develop robust, secure APIs that interface with blockchain networks, smart contracts, and on-chain data sources
Architect and optimize database systems to handle the performance demands of crypto trading and settlement workflows
Collaborate with blockchain engineers, product teams, and security specialists to ship reliable DeFi infrastructure
Monitor and improve system performance, ensuring uptime and scalability as transaction volume grows
Troubleshoot and resolve backend issues across distributed, blockchain-integrated environments
What We're Looking For
Strong professional experience with Java and backend service development
Proven track record building and scaling RESTful APIs in production environments
Solid understanding of database design, optimization, and management (SQL/NoSQL)
Familiarity with blockchain concepts, decentralized systems, or crypto-native applications
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, finance-driven engineering culture
Strong communication skills and comfort collaborating across engineering and product teams
