Director, Strategic Finance & Operations
"About The Role"
About This Role
Mesh is hiring a Director, Strategic Finance & Operations to own the company's numbers and operating agenda. This person will run the budget, forecast and board financials, lead the financial side of acquisitions and capital decisions, and drive the company's operating cadence—OKRs, a recurring business review, and clear, data-backed calls on what is and isn't working. They will also lead the team responsible for building Mesh's revenue and finance systems. The ideal candidate is deeply hands-on with data, brings structure to the organization, holds leaders accountable to their commitments, and is comfortable challenging senior stakeholders directly.
What You'll Be Doing
Own the annual budget and monthly forecast across ten departments, and roll out quarterly budget review calls
Build and maintain a driver-based operating model covering payment volume, take rates, contract minimums, subsidies, headcount and vendor spend
Own the quarterly board financials and monthly management pack, covering revenue, gross margin, spend versus budget, burn, runway and cash
Own the monthly P&L flux review and commentary, and help assemble the financial statement package with the accounting team
Run the business review in coordination with BizOps on a monthly basis, plus quarterly OKR reviews, tracking commitments and flagging misses with data
Own the company's metric definitions and the payments metrics the business manages to, ensuring every leader works from the same numbers
Perform the hands-on analysis behind those metrics, pulling, modeling and interpreting data directly using Claude and other AI tools, with support from the platform data team
Run the financial workstream on acquisitions with Corporate Development, including models, valuation, synergy and integration cases, due diligence and coordination
Lead capital allocation analysis, including returns on new products, corridors and incentives such as rate subsidies, and build-versus-buy decisions
Plan capital for licensed entities, projecting net worth and EU capital headroom and flagging funding needs early
Approve pricing exceptions that fall outside agreed deal guardrails
Build the sales capacity and quota model with the CRO as part of the budget process
Support org design and cross-functional programs for the CFO and CEO
Lead the Manager of FinOps, RevOps & Finance Systems
Confirm budget availability on purchase orders above the approval threshold
What We're Looking For
8+ years combining strategy consulting (Big Four strategy practice or similar), investment banking, private equity or FP&A, including at least 2–4 years operating in-house at a fintech, payments or high-growth company
Experience running a budget process end to end with department leaders, and owning board-level reporting
Strong modeling skills, including M&A or investment models
Experience building and running an operating cadence or OKR process across functions
Hands-on comfort with data and AI tools such as Claude, used to pull, model and analyze data and build reporting directly, given there is no dedicated analytics team
The presence to challenge senior leaders with data while maintaining the relationship
Bonus Points
Crypto experience
Capital planning experience for regulated entities
Experience managing systems or data builders
