Design secure smart contract frameworks and assess vulnerabilities within decentralized applications (dApps)
Lead applied research into DeFi security models, consensus mechanisms, and crypto-economic systems
Advise federal stakeholders on blockchain adoption strategies, risk mitigation, and distributed trust architectures
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate complex cryptographic theory into deployable, secure solutions
Mentor engineers and contribute to MITRE's thought leadership in web3 security and applied cryptography
What We're Looking For
Deep expertise in cryptography, including public-key infrastructure, zero-knowledge proofs, and secure multi-party computation
Proven experience architecting or auditing blockchain systems, smart contracts, or decentralized networks
Strong background in applied research, with a track record of publications or patents in cryptographic engineering
Familiarity with major blockchain platforms, consensus algorithms, and distributed systems design
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical complexity for non-technical stakeholders
Advanced degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field (PhD preferred)
