Block powers an open financial ecosystem spanning commerce, crypto, and self-custody bitcoin products — and our AI & Developer Experience Analytics team ensures every dollar invested in AI tooling delivers measurable returns. This is a rare opportunity to own an entire data pipeline, from raw signal capture to executive storytelling, in an organization where blockchain, decentralized finance, and distributed ledger technology are woven into the core product suite (Bitkey, Proto, Cash App). You'll shape how leadership understands AI ROI across a company building truly open financial infrastructure.
What You'll Be Doing
Instrument and extend telemetry capturing AI usage, code changes, CI/CD activity, and spend — architecting new data capture, not just transforming existing signals
Partner with data engineers to build production-grade ETL pipelines with freshness monitoring, backfills, and alerting
Define new metrics from ambiguous, evolving signals and build stakeholder confidence through rigorous validation
Design executive-facing dashboards and visualizations that translate governed metrics into decision-ready narratives
Deliver data-backed recommendations — not just numbers — and defend your methodology to senior stakeholders
Collaborate cross-functionally with data engineering, applied AI, and data science teams to keep telemetry connected end-to-end, powering everything from session classifiers to leadership dashboards
What We're Looking For
8+ years in analytics engineering, data engineering, or a related technical discipline
Proven experience building production data pipelines and transforming messy, ambiguous signals into governed, trustworthy metrics
Strong command of SQL, data modeling, and modern ETL/ELT tooling
Comfort using AI coding agents as a default part of your daily workflow for building and maintaining pipelines and dashboards
Excellent communication skills — able to translate complex technical findings into a clear narrative for executive audiences
A builder's mindset: equally skilled at defining a brand-new metric and debugging a silently failed pipeline at 2am
Bonus Points
Experience with blockchain, smart contracts, or decentralized/distributed systems analytics
Familiarity with crypto or DeFi data structures and on-chain reporting
Background supporting developer experience (DX) or platform engineering metrics
Experience building executive dashboards in a high-growth tech environment
