Senior Specialty Protocol Engineer
"About The Role"
About This Role
This isn't another fork of an existing chain. Wells Fargo is designing a custom, application-specific distributed ledger infrastructure purpose-built for institutional finance—leveraging advanced cryptographic techniques to deliver "auditable confidentiality" at scale. As a Senior Specialty Protocol Engineer, you'll help define how smart contracts, privacy-preserving mechanisms, and regulatory oversight can work together inside a single, cohesive blockchain architecture. It's a rare opportunity to shape core protocol design at a major financial institution investing seriously in web3 infrastructure.
What You'll Be Doing
Designing and implementing core protocol components for a purpose-built, application-specific blockchain network
Building smart contract frameworks that balance transparency requirements with transaction-level confidentiality
Researching and applying advanced cryptographic primitives (zero-knowledge proofs, threshold signatures, etc.) to meet institutional-grade privacy and compliance needs
Collaborating with compliance, risk, and product teams to translate regulatory requirements into protocol-level features
Optimizing consensus mechanisms and distributed systems performance for high-throughput financial use cases
Partnering with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate the platform with existing financial infrastructure
What We're Looking For
Deep experience building or contributing to blockchain protocols, distributed ledger systems, or decentralized infrastructure
Strong command of smart contract development and secure coding practices
Solid grounding in applied cryptography relevant to crypto and DeFi systems
Proven track record designing distributed systems at scale, ideally in regulated or high-stakes environments
Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to communicate complex technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders
Comfort operating in ambiguous, research-driven environments where you're building novel infrastructure from scratch
Bonus Points
Experience with privacy-preserving protocols (zk-SNARKs, confidential transactions, MPC)
Familiarity with institutional DeFi, tokenization, or digital asset custody solutions
Contributions to open-source blockchain or web3 projects
Background in financial services or regulatory technology
Why Join Us
Competitive compensation reflecting the specialized, high-impact nature of this work
The chance to shape foundational protocol decisions for a major institution's entry into decentralized infrastructure
Collaborative, innovation-driven culture backed by enterprise-level resources
Direct influence on how traditional finance and blockchain technology converge at scale
Salary Range
$200,098.67 - $200,098.67
