Sr. Compliance Associate - Market Surveillance
"What You'll Be Doing"
About This Role
Kraken is hiring several Senior Compliance Associates to carry out day-to-day surveillance across these markets, investigate what that surveillance uncovers, and help build out the programme as the business grows.
What You'll Be Doing
Review and disposition surveillance alerts across regulated markets, documenting the reasoning behind each decision clearly enough for others to follow
Carry out analytical reviews that start from trade and order data rather than from a system-generated alert
Investigate escalated behaviour end to end — gathering data, reconstructing events, and writing up findings for senior compliance stakeholders
Assess referrals raised internally and externally, and progress the ones that warrant further action
Draft suspicious transaction and order reports and suspicious activity reports
Produce management information and regulatory reporting for the entities covered
Contribute to surveillance platform and tooling work, including bringing new products and data sources into scope and testing that detection works as intended
Use AI and automation tools to speed up evidence-gathering and case reconstruction, while applying human judgement to final decisions
What We're Looking For
At least 2 years of experience in trade surveillance, market abuse investigation or trading conduct within a regulated firm such as an exchange, broker-dealer, trading venue, bank or comparable regulated trading business
Working knowledge of core market abuse typologies, including spoofing, layering, wash trading, insider dealing, front running and ramping
Experience reviewing and dispositioning surveillance alerts, with the ability to write up findings to a standard others can rely on
Clear, evidence-first written communication, since case files and escalations may be read by auditors and regulators without the author present to explain them
Comfort using generative AI and other automation tools to improve the speed and quality of investigative work, while maintaining the oversight regulated casework requires
Based in the UK, Ireland, Cyprus, Malta, Romania or Canada, with fluency in English
Bonus Points
Exposure to crypto-asset markets, though not required
Hands-on experience with a surveillance platform such as Scila, Nasdaq SMARTS, Eventus or NICE Actimize
Familiarity with SQL or a similar query tool for evidence-gathering
Experience drafting suspicious transaction and order reports or suspicious activity reports
Experience with electronic communications surveillance
