About This Role
iCapital's Distributed Ledger Technology team is seeking a seasoned Backend Engineer to architect and scale an industry-wide blockchain platform for the alternative investments space. This is a rare opportunity to shape how decentralized technology reshapes access to private markets, working at the intersection of traditional finance and emerging web3 infrastructure. You'll tackle complex technical challenges while directly influencing product strategy and adoption across the ecosystem.
What You'll Be Doing
Design, build, and optimize backend systems powering a distributed ledger platform tailored to alternative investment workflows
Develop and deploy smart contracts that automate and secure complex financial transactions
Translate ambiguous business problems into scoped technical solutions, identifying opportunities to streamline processes through decentralized systems
Collaborate cross-functionally with product, compliance, and engineering stakeholders to deliver scalable crypto-adjacent infrastructure
Evaluate and integrate emerging blockchain protocols and DeFi-inspired mechanisms where applicable to private markets
Mentor engineers and contribute to architectural decisions that define the future of the platform
What We're Looking For
Proven experience building backend systems, with hands-on exposure to blockchain or distributed ledger technologies
Strong proficiency in backend languages (Java, Go, Node.js, or similar) and distributed systems design
Demonstrated ability to scope complex projects and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Experience with smart contract development and blockchain architecture principles
Analytical mindset with a track record of optimizing workflows in high-stakes environments
Excellent communication skills and comfort operating in a fast-paced, evolving crypto/fintech landscape
Bonus Points
Direct experience with Ethereum, Hyperledger, Corda, or other enterprise blockchain frameworks
Familiarity with alternative investments, private markets, or wealth management platforms
Exposure to DeFi protocols or tokenization initiatives
Prior leadership or AVP-level experience in a fintech or web3 organization
