About This Role
Join the Citi Integrated Digital Assets Platform (CIDAP) team, where traditional banking meets cutting-edge distributed systems technology. This VP-level engineering role puts you at the center of designing and building the smart contract infrastructure and crypto-native tooling that will define how one of the world's largest financial institutions engages with web3. You'll work alongside top-tier engineers solving real problems in decentralized finance (DeFi), tokenization, and blockchain-based settlement—with the backing, scale, and resources of a global bank.
What You'll Be Doing
Architect and build robust Java-based applications that integrate directly with blockchain networks and distributed ledger protocols
Design, develop, and deploy smart contracts supporting digital asset issuance, transfer, and settlement
Collaborate cross-functionally with product, risk, and infrastructure teams to bring compliant web3 solutions to market
Optimize platform performance, security, and scalability for high-volume crypto and DeFi-adjacent transactions
Mentor junior engineers while driving technical best practices across the blockchain engineering team
Evaluate emerging distributed systems technologies and recommend adoption strategies for the digital assets roadmap
What We're Looking For
8+ years of professional Java development experience, including enterprise-grade backend systems
Demonstrated hands-on experience with blockchain platforms, smart contract development, or distributed ledger technology
Strong understanding of cryptographic principles, consensus mechanisms, and decentralized architecture
Proven track record delivering complex software projects within regulated or high-stakes environments
Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams in a fast-paced environment
Bonus Points
Familiarity with Ethereum, Hyperledger, Corda, or other enterprise blockchain frameworks
Experience with tokenization standards, digital custody solutions, or crypto settlement rails
Background in financial services, capital markets, or regulatory compliance
Contributions to open-source web3 or DeFi projects
