About This Role
This is a rare dual-mandate position covering two of the most dynamic frontiers in web3: permissionless DeFi infrastructure (DEX aggregation, non-custodial wallets, AI agent integrations) and regulated crypto-asset services (exchange services, digital asset custody, stablecoin issuance, and card programs). You'll be the legal architect enabling MoonPay's product and engineering teams to innovate at speed while staying grounded in sound risk frameworks across a rapidly evolving distributed ledger landscape.
What You'll Be Doing
Serve as embedded legal counsel for product teams building across smart contracts, DEX routing, and non-custodial wallet infrastructure
Advise on the legal architecture connecting MoonPay's regulated entities with decentralized protocol integrations
Shape product decisions from early ideation through launch for both DeFi tools and regulated crypto offerings like stablecoin issuance and custody
Translate complex regulatory and distributed systems concepts into clear, actionable guidance for engineering and product partners
Build scalable legal frameworks that let teams ship quickly without compromising compliance
Partner cross-functionally with compliance and regulatory strategy teams to keep pace with the fast-moving blockchain policy environment
What We're Looking For
JD and active bar membership, with substantial experience advising on crypto, blockchain, or fintech products
Demonstrated fluency in both decentralized finance mechanics and regulated financial services frameworks
Comfort advising on novel, undefined legal questions in emerging areas like tokenized assets and AI-driven agents
Strong communicator who can act as a thought partner to engineers and product leads, not just a reviewer
Ability to move quickly, make risk-calibrated calls, and own decisions independently
Genuine passion for the future of decentralized infrastructure and digital asset innovation
Bonus Points
Prior in-house experience at a crypto exchange, wallet provider, or DeFi protocol
Familiarity with stablecoin regulatory regimes across multiple jurisdictions
Experience advising on smart contract-based products or non-custodial systems
Exposure to AI agent-driven financial products
