About This Role
MoonPay powers the infrastructure behind crypto, stablecoins, and tokenized asset movement for 30M+ customers and 500+ ecosystem partners worldwide. PayBox, one of our newest products, lets AI agents transact directly with payments, wallets, and decentralized applications — without ever exposing user credentials. We just launched with strong early traction, and now we're scaling fast. This is a founding-engineer-caliber opportunity to shape a category-defining product at the intersection of AI and web3.
What You'll Be Doing
Own major slices of PayBox end-to-end — from architecture and smart contract integrations to shipping polished user flows
Expand PayBox's reach across AI platforms, enabling agent-native payment experiences
Build peer-to-peer payment rails and integrate with leading DeFi protocols
Grow our plugin ecosystem to connect PayBox with a broader web3 and crypto landscape
Partner closely with our Chief Engineer to identify priorities, make high-leverage decisions, and move fast without excessive process
Balance ambitious distributed systems engineering with the unglamorous details — onboarding flows, edge cases, and polish — that make products great
What We're Looking For
Strong software engineering fundamentals and a track record of owning complex systems from concept to production
Comfort operating with high autonomy in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment — this is closer to a founding role than a typical staff position
Genuine curiosity about blockchain, crypto, and how decentralized technologies reshape value movement
Ability to reason through hard technical problems independently and make sound judgment calls
A builder's mindset: you care as much about the unglamorous details as the big architectural wins
Excellent collaboration skills — you'll work in a small, tightly-knit, high-trust team
Bonus Points
Prior experience with smart contracts, wallets, or DeFi integrations
Background building AI agent systems or AI-native products
Experience shipping consumer-facing fintech or crypto products at scale
Familiarity with payment protocols or distributed ledger infrastructure
