Staff Software Engineer - Curated Data
About This Role
Dune powers onchain intelligence for 1,000+ organizations including Visa, Coinbase, Bloomberg, and the IMF, turning raw distributed ledger data from 130+ chains into structured, trusted datasets. This role sits at the intersection of backend systems engineering and data architecture: you'll own the lifecycle of curated data—from decoding raw blockchain events to orchestrating thousands of interdependent models across petabytes of information. You'll be handed ambiguous problems and come back with designs, sequencing, and systems that scale.
What You'll Be Doing
Architect the control plane for our curated data lifecycle—dependency-aware orchestration, backfills, restatements, retries, and recovery
Decide whether a dataset should be a model, service, or job, then own that architecture through to production
Design robust contracts between ingestion and curation layers so datasets remain reasoned-about end to end
Build alerting and data quality signals that surface real issues in smart contract and chain data without generating noise
Work fluidly across Go, Kotlin, Rust, Python, and SQL, selecting the right tool for each distributed systems challenge
Decompose complex problems into parallelizable workstreams, sequencing delivery so value ships early
What We're Looking For
A backend engineer with deep data systems expertise, or a data engineer with strong software engineering chops—you ship production services, not just pipelines
Experience building or significantly extending orchestration and scheduling systems, with clear insight into failure modes at scale
Proven ability managing schema evolution and data correctness in systems with real downstream consumers, where breaking changes carry real cost
Hands-on experience with stateful stream processing in production (Flink, Kafka Streams, Spark Structured Streaming, RisingWave, Materialize, or Feldera)
Strong SQL and data modeling skills across large-scale datasets, with genuine curiosity about query engine internals
Comfort operating in ambiguity, translating loose requirements into concrete technical designs
Bonus Points
Prior experience working with blockchain data, smart contracts, or decentralized protocols
Familiarity with DeFi primitives, tokens, lending markets, or RWA data structures
Experience building data products consumed directly by external customers or replicated into their warehouses
Contributions to open-source data infrastructure or distributed systems projects
