Engineering Manager, Protocol Indexing
About This Role
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of software and data engineers focusing on blockchain protocol research and the development of indexing pipelines. You will provide technical direction, foster career growth, and drive engineering excellence within our product organization, directly contributing to our analytics, reporting, and staking services.
What You'll Be Doing
Lead, coach, and grow a team of high-performing engineers through regular 1:1s, direct feedback, and career planning.
Support the professional growth of your team members, helping them develop both technical and soft skills.
Own the architecture for protocol indexers and data pipelines in Python and Go, designing for scalability, observability, and cost efficiency.
Champion testing and reliability, and define data contracts and schemas with downstream consumers.
Plan for chain-specific realities such as reorgs, forks/upgrades, backfills, and catch-up strategies.
Partner with Product, Data Science, and Data Availability teams to prioritize business-impacting indexing work.
Advocate for platform investments with clear ROI and translate the roadmap into measurable outcomes.
Own team planning and prioritization across maintenance, improvements, and new protocol coverage.
Apply Kanban principles to visualize work, limit WIP, and manage flow; monitor cycle time and lead time.
Define and meet SLOs for data freshness, accuracy, and coverage.
Drive incident response, postmortems, and preventive improvements.
Foster a psychologically safe team culture rooted in respect, transparency, and curiosity.
What We're Looking For
Experience leading and growing a team of high-performing engineers.
Strong architectural skills with a focus on scalability, observability, and cost efficiency.
Proficiency in Python and Go programming languages.
Ability to define data contracts and schemas.
Experience with blockchain-specific challenges like reorgs and forks.
Proven ability to partner with cross-functional teams (Product, Data Science).
Experience with platform investments and demonstrating clear ROI.
Strong planning and prioritization skills, ideally using Kanban or similar methodologies.
Experience defining and meeting Service Level Objectives (SLOs).
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
