About This Role
This is a rare opportunity to join as a foundational engineering hire and own the design of payment systems from the ground up. You'll work at the intersection of crypto, smart contracts, and global finance, building resilient infrastructure that powers real-world transactions at scale. Your work will directly influence the technical direction of our entire payments stack.
What You'll Be Doing
Design and build scalable payment infrastructure integrating blockchain networks, stablecoins, and traditional rails
Architect smart contracts and backend systems that facilitate secure, low-latency crypto transactions
Partner with product and compliance teams to launch DeFi-adjacent payment features
Own reliability, security, and performance of mission-critical distributed ledger integrations
Mentor future engineering hires as the team scales
Evaluate and integrate third-party web3 protocols, custodians, and on/off-ramp providers
What We're Looking For
5+ years building production-grade payment systems, ideally with some crypto or fintech exposure
Strong experience with distributed systems, APIs, and high-availability backend architecture
Familiarity with blockchain fundamentals—wallets, transaction lifecycles, gas mechanics, and smart contracts
Proven ability to operate independently in ambiguous, fast-moving startup environments
Excellent communication skills and comfort collaborating cross-functionally with compliance and product teams
Strong ownership mentality and a founder's mindset toward problem-solving
Bonus Points
Direct experience with stablecoin settlement, DeFi protocols, or on-chain payment rails
Background working with multiple blockchain networks (Ethereum, Solana, Layer 2s)
Prior experience at an early-stage crypto or web3 startup
Understanding of regulatory considerations in crypto payments and money transmission
