Senior Software Engineer – Agent Developer Platform
"What You'll Be Doing"
About This Role
We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build the developer platform that agents and partners use to integrate and build on Alpaca. You'll evolve Alpaca's MCP servers, tools, and skills, and build the APIs behind them. You'll play a central role in defining the architecture that gives integrators the fastest time to market—this is the surface that all builders embedding Alpaca for their end users rely on.
What You'll Be Doing
Design and build Alpaca's agent-facing developer platform, including MCP servers, tools, skills, and the APIs behind them.
Evolve the platform as the MCP protocol and connector, plugin, and skill standards change.
Build new APIs that bring trading and account capabilities to apps and agents.
Decide which components the platform renders, enabling developers and partners to build apps faster from shared building blocks.
Keep Alpaca's execution model aligned with the MCP protocol and connector, plugin, and skill standards, translating changes into the developer platform's application architecture.
Own production reliability and quality for the services you build.
Mentor engineers and help raise the quality of design and implementation in this area.
What We're Looking For
5+ years of software engineering experience, including ownership of production systems used by other developers.
Experience shipping a developer-facing API, SDK, or platform as a primary contributor.
Enough MCP architecture knowledge to work with both stateless and stateful behavior, along with experience building to MCP or to connector, plugin, or skill standards as they've evolved in production.
Strong API design skills, covering schemas, compatibility, and reliable responses for other developers.
Proficiency in Python or TypeScript, with a willingness to work primarily in Go.
Strong architectural judgment, with a track record of shipping while requirements are still being defined.
Clear communication skills across engineering, product, compliance, and risk teams.
Bonus Points
Experience shipping developer-facing tools, SDKs, or MCP servers.
Experience building agents with a framework such as LangChain.
Experience or understanding of financial markets.
Production experience with Go.
Experience working at a startup.
Experience working remotely.
