About This Role
This isn't your typical underwriting seat. As VP of Casualty Underwriting at Relm, you'll evaluate risk for organizations building on blockchain, operating decentralized exchanges, and pushing the boundaries of web3 innovation. You'll work alongside a tight-knit team of specialists who understand that insuring the future requires rethinking the past — bringing both technical underwriting rigor and genuine curiosity about distributed ledger technology, smart contracts, and the broader crypto economy.
What You'll Be Doing
Underwrite and price complex casualty risk for clients across crypto, DeFi, biotech, and other frontier-tech sectors
Analyze emerging exposures tied to decentralized platforms, digital asset custody, and smart contract-driven business models
Build and maintain broker and client relationships across the web3 and innovation economy
Partner cross-functionally with claims, actuarial, and legal teams to craft coverage that matches real-world blockchain risk
Monitor regulatory and market developments affecting crypto exchanges and distributed systems to refine underwriting strategy
Mentor junior underwriters and contribute to Relm's growing book of specialty casualty business
What We're Looking For
7+ years of casualty underwriting experience, ideally within specialty or excess & surplus lines
Demonstrated ability to assess risk for emerging technology, crypto, or blockchain-adjacent businesses
Strong analytical skills paired with sound commercial judgment
Excellent relationship-building skills with brokers and underwriting partners
Comfort operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with evolving risk landscapes
Bachelor's degree required; relevant underwriting designations a plus
Bonus Points
Prior experience underwriting for crypto exchanges, DeFi protocols, or digital asset custodians
Familiarity with smart contracts and the technical mechanics of decentralized applications
Existing broker relationships within the web3 or fintech insurance space
Exposure to international or multi-jurisdictional casualty programs
