Data Science Associate
About This Role
Onyx is hiring a Data Scientist to help turn platform activity into better products, sharper decisions, and deeper understanding of customers and markets. Data science at Onyx sits close to the product — you'll work directly with engineering, product, growth, trading, and operations to understand user behavior, improve the trading experience, and translate complex datasets into clear decisions. The role spans product analytics, experimentation, modeling, data quality, and automation, with some systems already built and others yet to be created. Responsibilities and ownership are expected to grow quickly.
What You'll Be Doing
Analyze user behavior across acquisition, onboarding, deposits, trading, retention, and engagement
Build models and analyses that explain conversion, market participation, liquidity, and customer value
Develop dashboards and reporting that give visibility into product and business performance
Define the metrics used to evaluate features, markets, and growth initiatives
Design experiments, measure results, and translate findings into product recommendations
Identify unusual patterns, data-quality issues, operational risks, and opportunities for automation
Build reliable datasets and analytical workflows using SQL and Python
Partner with engineering to improve data collection, event tracking, and analytics infrastructure
Work with product, growth, trading, operations, and leadership on high-priority business questions
Help establish the tools, processes, and standards for data science at Onyx
What We're Looking For
Strong analytical skills and experience using data to solve ambiguous problems
High proficiency in SQL and Python
Experience working with large, complex, or real-time datasets
Understanding of experimentation, statistical analysis, and product metrics
Ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
Strong product judgment and curiosity about user behavior
Ability to move between analytics, modeling, data quality, automation, and product strategy
Comfort working independently and taking ownership in a fast-moving environment
Bonus Points
Experience in consumer technology, fintech, trading, gaming, sports, crypto, or marketplaces
Experience analyzing funnels, retention, cohorts, unit economics, or customer lifetime value
Familiarity with market structure, pricing, liquidity, risk, or trading behavior
Experience building data pipelines, internal tools, or automated monitoring systems
Experience with visualization tools, experimentation platforms, and modern data warehouses
Experience with event-level product data or high-frequency transactional datasets
Interest in prediction markets and how people form views about future events

Anticipated base salary of $150,000–$200,000, depending on experience, impact, and scope, plus target bonus and equity
