Citi's Digital Assets Platform team is pioneering how a global financial institution leverages blockchain, smart contracts, and decentralized infrastructure to transform capital markets. This is a rare opportunity to build production-grade distributed systems at enterprise scale, working alongside engineers who are redefining what's possible when legacy finance meets web3 innovation.
What You'll Be Doing
Architect and develop robust, scalable back-end systems in Java that power Citi's blockchain-based digital asset offerings
Design and implement smart contracts and distributed ledger solutions supporting tokenization and settlement use cases
Collaborate cross-functionally with product, risk, and compliance teams to deliver secure, enterprise-grade crypto infrastructure
Drive technical decisions on consensus mechanisms, node architecture, and blockchain integration patterns
Mentor junior engineers while championing best practices in distributed systems and decentralized application development
Troubleshoot and optimize performance across the digital assets technology stack
What We're Looking For
Proven hands-on experience as a Back-End Software Engineer, with strong Java expertise
Demonstrated understanding of blockchain fundamentals, distributed ledger technology, and smart contract development
Experience building scalable, resilient systems within complex, regulated environments
Strong problem-solving mindset with a proactive, self-starting approach to engineering challenges
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across global, cross-functional teams
Solid grasp of software engineering best practices including testing, CI/CD, and code quality standards
Bonus Points
Direct experience with DeFi protocols, tokenization platforms, or digital asset custody solutions
Familiarity with Ethereum, Hyperledger, Corda, or other enterprise blockchain frameworks
Background in financial services or capital markets technology
Contributions to open-source blockchain or crypto projects
