About This Role
This is a rare opportunity to own the operational engine behind Airwallex's Americas business—one that increasingly intersects with crypto rails, smart contract-enabled settlement innovations, and distributed ledger technologies shaping the future of payments. You'll lead high-visibility initiatives with direct exposure to senior leadership, driving cross-functional programs that bridge traditional finance with the emerging decentralized economy. Reporting to the Head of Operations, US, you'll have significant latitude to redefine how operations scales in a region at the frontier of financial infrastructure innovation.
What You'll Be Doing
Lead financial operations workstreams spanning payment investigations, settlement exceptions, banking-partner escalations, and transaction reconciliation—skills directly transferable to blockchain-based settlement and DeFi reconciliation models
Partner with commercial teams to configure customer accounts, activate product capabilities, and resolve onboarding blockers that delay revenue activation
Own enterprise customer readiness end-to-end, including go-live checklists, operational reviews, support model design, and billing/pricing configuration
Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Legal, Security, and Data teams to build scalable processes supporting distributed, high-growth operations
Identify and implement process automation opportunities, bringing efficiency gains similar to those unlocked by smart contracts and programmable workflows
Mentor and scale a high-performing team equipped to handle ambiguous, multi-domain operational challenges
What We're Looking For
7+ years in operations strategy, fintech, or payments, ideally with exposure to crypto, web3, or decentralized finance ecosystems
Proven experience leading financial operations, settlement processes, or exception management at scale
Strong cross-functional leadership skills, comfortable driving alignment across Engineering, Product, and Commercial stakeholders
Analytical mindset with the ability to solve ambiguous, first-principles problems in a fast-paced distributed systems environment
Excellent communication skills and executive presence, with experience presenting to senior leadership
Demonstrated ability to build and scale operational infrastructure during periods of rapid growth
Bonus Points
Direct experience with blockchain-based payment rails, digital asset settlement, or decentralized finance protocols
Familiarity with smart contract architecture and its application to financial operations automation
Background in enterprise client onboarding within regulated fintech or crypto-native companies
Experience operating across multiple global licensing and compliance frameworks
