About This Role
Join a high-impact Financial Crime Compliance team operating at the intersection of global payments, regulatory innovation, and next-generation financial technology. This is a rare opportunity to shape AML/CTF strategy for a company processing transactions across 85+ licenses and multiple jurisdictions—while staying ahead of financial crime risks emerging from decentralized finance, crypto rails, and distributed ledger-adjacent payment flows. You'll work at the second line of defense, translating complex regulatory expectations into practical, risk-based controls that protect a truly global, always-on economy.
What You'll Be Doing
Architect and maintain Airwallex's Global AML/CTF Policy Framework, setting minimum standards that scale across regions while accounting for emerging risks tied to digital assets, smart contracts, and crypto-enabled payment channels
Design and implement risk-based controls spanning customer due diligence, beneficial ownership verification, transaction monitoring, and suspicious activity escalation
Track global regulatory shifts—including evolving guidance on blockchain, DeFi, and virtual asset service providers—and translate these into actionable policy updates
Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Risk, and regional compliance teams to embed financial crime controls into new product launches and payment corridors
Provide advisory support on escalated investigations involving potential money laundering, terrorist financing, or sanctions exposure
Act as a subject matter expert on AML trends affecting both traditional and crypto-adjacent financial infrastructure
What We're Looking For
7+ years of AML/CTF compliance experience within fintech, banking, payments, or crypto/web3 environments
Deep understanding of global AML regulatory frameworks (FinCEN, FATF) and practical application across distributed, multi-jurisdictional businesses
Proven ability to build scalable compliance frameworks for fast-growing, technology-driven organizations
Strong stakeholder management skills, with experience advising product and engineering teams on compliance-by-design principles
Excellent analytical and written communication skills, comfortable distilling complex regulatory concepts for technical and non-technical audiences
CAMS certification or equivalent preferred
Bonus Points
Direct experience with blockchain, cryptocurrency, or decentralized finance compliance programs
Familiarity with smart contract-based transaction monitoring or on-chain analytics tools
Prior work with virtual asset service providers or crypto-native exchanges
Experience building AML frameworks for multi-license, multi-currency global platforms
